Should Prostituion be a Crime? No!

Horse racing may be the “Sport of Kings”, and fox hunting that of the aristocracy, but prostitution has been the sport of the masses.

Ever since the beginning of human history, women and men have traded their favors for goods (money), position in society, and power. It is the way of life, always has been, always will be.

Sexuality in general was accepted for what it was, a good, healthy, and natural way of life until the 12 century (or thereabouts) when the church decided its priests were not exactly obeying the rules and needed to be put in line. The decision for celibacy was a conscious one of necessity, at least in the minds of the church leaders. Before that, even the popes had families, with wildly varied results, just as in the rest of society. The family lives of the early popes makes for great reading.

With the degree of success they had, the next step was to try and control the general populace. When simply making rules didn’t work, they created demonology. Maybe the fear of the “Incubus” and Succubus” would work. When that failed, for the next few hundred years, they turned to torture and physical punishment with the “Inquisition” and the witch hunts. It is interesting to note that there were a lot more witches than warlocks hunted down and burned. Women always did get the worst of it.

After the advent of romantic love in the Middle Ages, and more attention to the nuclear family, at least on the surface, you would think prostitution would be eliminated, it wasn’t. In the United States there was little effort in that direction until after the beginning of the 20th century.

Notorious places like the Barbary Coast in San Francisco and Chicago had its share of brothels and cat houses, but so did most towns of any size, and some country sides. It was, if not an accepted business, a quietly tolerated one. After the Great San Francisco earthquake of 1906 destroyed most of the Barbary Coast, it was never rebuilt, and acceptance ebbed. Prohibition finished it off in Chicago.

Probably the forces that brought us the failed effort of prohibition had a lot to do with the passing of anti-prostitution laws, driving the entire business underground. And as with all attempts to regulate social behavior with government regulation, it was a dismal failure with horrendous results.

The Baltimore Examiner on August 13th ran a story entitled “Who is Killing the Prostitutes”. Already 5 have been killed this year making a total of 26 over the past decade. A Task Force has been set up by the Mayor, good luck. This is not particular to Baltimore; the same scenario plays out daily across our country.

Add to this the transmission of STDs, especially AIDS, and you see what a hellish mess this brings to our society.

Of course, one of the first responses is “let’s get the Johns, they are the real criminals”.

I believe the real criminals are the weak-kneed legislators that made prostitution a crime in the beginning. No degree of law enforcement will ever make a dent, let alone curb the business. The efforts are futile and the manpower is needed elsewhere.

My answer is to legalize it, regulate it, and tax it. It is just a business after all. Develop zoning to accommodate it properly, require weekly medical examines, and protect the workers in the industry with OSHA rules. It is the only humane thing to do.

If your religious or social beliefs run counter to this, work to educate your family and friends, but mind your own business. Again, this is not an area that should be the federal government’s purview and thankfully there are no federal laws against it. Keep it that way.

Each locality obviously can pass laws and ordinances as the community sees fit, that is their right, but the public that supports such laws should be made aware of the cruel results of those actions.

I know all of the objections, but they just do not hold up to scrutiny in my opinion. I am however more than willing to discuss them, here or in a future article.

This is another example of government interfering with nature and trying to regulate social behavior, and as usual, it simply doesn’t work.

The best government is the one that hurts the people the least.

The Republicans Deserve to Lose, and Probably Will!

The Republicans deserve to lose because “they forgot who brung them to the dance”. It wasn’t the Neo-cons (the extreme Religious Right), it certainly wasn’t the Neo-Libs (the extreme Socialist Left), it may have been some of the classical Libs, but not many. It was the everyday conservative (classic) man and woman, whom they came to ignore.

The vast majority of Americans are conservative, hard-working everyday people. They want to pursue Live, Liberty, and Happiness and be left alone. They believe that government has little to do with there everyday lives, especially the Feds, and should let them keep most of their hard earned money, and reduce the size of government at all levels.

The Republicans came to power in 1996 for the first time in over 70 years. The public felt that after all that time they might finally get a reprieve for the oppressive federal government, and in the beginning it looked promising.

Then they let Newt Gingrich be fed to the wolves with absurd trumped up charges and lost his stabilizing voice (though I know some of you will howl at this one). Then they worried so damn much about where Bill Clinton put his penis, they totally got off track and looked like blithering idiots.

Then to placate the howling left, they “reached across the aisle” until they could no longer be recognized as conservatives, let alone Republicans. For the past eight years, the Federal government has grown 40%, and intrudes more and more into our private lives.

They promoted and passed the most vile and intrusive legislation ever to see the light of day, The Patriot Act, which threw Freedom and Liberty right out of the window under the auspices of “fighting terror”. Our millions who died for these rights, most assuredly are tossing and turning in their graves.

They continued to allow “earmarks” and other nefarious liberal tactics, and worse than that, they began to use them too.

They tossed out any vision of ethics and a lot of them did what they felt like, not what was proper, and ended in trouble and out of office. There is no way they could lay any claim to “the high road”.

If they continue to court the Religious Right and sleep with the Liberals, they have no business in government.

Our founding fathers envisioned this when they wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. To by-pass any and all roadblocks to our Pursuit of the intended goal, they added a ton of additional amendments (not all worthy) and have even called for Constitutional Conventions for such ill-conceived topics as Marriage and Flag Burning. Where in our Constitutional history is any of this even discussed?

The 10th amendment addresses all of it. Anything not specifically discussed in the Constitution is the purview of the individual states.

Not only didn’t we get rid of the intrusive Housing and Education departments, we got a new one, a Terrorism Czar (note the Czar part).

Give me a break. Throw them out and get four years of Socialism and maybe the public will come to their senses. Of course, you know the old axiom, “You can never go broke underestimating the public”.

That is why we need leaders who will lead and not read the poll numbers each morning at breakfast; who will be concerned about us and not their campaign benefactors; who will be true Americans and put the public good first. We have not had that in 24 years in the Presidency, and almost never in the Legislative or Judicial branches. We need it and deserve it more than ever, and right now the Republicans can not or will not do it, they need to answer for their neglect.

Alright, take your shots at me, all of you,

Isolationists, Peaceniks, and the Ill-Informed Never Learn!

Listen up Dear Friends,

If any of you think the Russian Bear is going away simply because many of you are want to ignore the problem, wish it away, or find peace at any price, forget it! Pat Buchanan and all of the isolations are in for a rude awakening.

Here is what is going to happen unless some drastic measures are taken.

South Ossetia and Abkhasia have been declared independent territories, and by default part of Russia, splitting Georgia in half.

Since the vast majority of residents in both areas are ethnic Georgians, this will not be tolerated. Guerilla warfare will break out, and Russian soldiers will die.

This will lead to an all out attack on Georgia and subjugation of that country.

Russia cut all ties with NATO today, so it now has it sights set on Poland, Ukraine and the Baltics (Latvia, Lithuania, & Estonia). Russia still believes it is their divine right to annex these countries even though until 1945 they were independent sovereignties or part of other countries through history. Belarus will be no problem, like France in both World Wars, they will invite the invaders in.

Since the Western Europeans are basically cowards and will not stand up for themselves until the Russian boots are on their necks, nothing will come from them. Also, I guess it is more important to have the Russian oil that is 25% of their energy sources, than a future for their children.

Syria is in Moscow today buying weapons for the Mideast. Any ideas of how they will be used?

Forget the U.N. for no other reason than Russia has veto power over any of their actions, as if they would do anything in the first place.

Could it be that this South Ossetia and Abkhasia invasion could be the equivalent of shooting Archduke Ferdinand?

Time will tell, but the lack of action from the West will certainly insure that a storm is coming. How many more will die for the arrogance of megalomaniacs like Vladimir Putin?

It is far too obvious that Putin believes that the election this fall will mean a takeover by the liberals and will insure that the U.S. will be a totally neutered and whooped pup. He believes there is no one in the West to stop him.

The West must defend Georgia, and the rest of the East Europe countries, death warrants are being written as we watch. All of our children’s futures are at stake!

Vigilance,

Liberalism 1 : Sanity 0

In the spring of 2006, William Bruce, a 24 year old schizophrenic, was released from the Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta, Maine. He was released against the recommendations of his doctors since his statutory time had expired and the doctors could not keep him longer, and because of advocacy interference.

On June 20, 2006, he killed his mother by striking her several times in the head with a hatchet. He was found not criminally responsible for this by reason of insanity.

Records at the facility indicate he should never have been sent home. Then why was he?

Congress created the National Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness program in 1986 to curb abuse and neglect of such patients. As with most good intentioned ideas, things can run amok, and they did. Just so you know, states have similar programs funded with taxpayers’ dollars. PAIMI received $34.8 million in the 2008 budget.

Basically this is a group that is a watch-dog for mistreatment of patients, a very admirable goal, and one I support wholeheartedly. However, in this case the advocates pushed for Mr. Bruce’s release, and trained him how to answer the questions so that could come about. His release was even against the wishes of his father. Now his mother is dead and he is back where he belongs.

If this were an isolated incident, it would be one thing, but it isn’t. Because of the efforts of so many misguided and totally uninformed liberals out there, it happens on a too frequent basis, not only in the release of the criminally mentally ill, but hardcore prisoners.

Why? It is simple really. One of the basic tenets of liberalism is that everyone is a victim and no one is responsible for their own actions. This is in total opposition to conservative ideology, where individuals and groups are responsible for their own actions, and totally accountable. If someone professes to be a conservative and disagrees with this, they are not.

If no one is responsible for their actions, then who is? I guess President Bush is responsible for everything. Blame him for this too. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you would.

Come on now, you know who you are out there. Get the guts to stand up and face life on your own. You are responsible for your life, your actions, and you will be held accountable in this life or the next, whether you like it or not. Karma’s a bitch baby!

Whom Do You Trust?

In the past few days, rumors, ideas, and opinions have been flying like cow pies in a stampede. If you don't get the reference, I feel sorry for you.

On a gather.com, where I write also, a commenter referred to an article in the Washington Post by a Russian reporter (guess they can't afford their own staff), Georgia Attacked First, as if it were gospel. First, it was the Post which is good for lining bird cages and not much more, and second, you know the reporter had a gun to her head or one of her family's head.

Isolationist supreme Pat Buchanan wrote an article today blaming Georgia also, Blow-back from Bear Baiting criticizing Mikheil Saakashvili for trying to rid his country of Russian interlopers and blaming the Georgians for "killing scores of his own Ossetian citizens and sending tens of thousands fleeing into Russia".

A Wall Street Journal front page article "Evidence in Georgia Belies Russia's Claims of 'Genocide' " indicates that maybe one person was killed.

Where is the truth?

Since the two provinces, S. Ossetia and Abkhasia, are part of Georgia and the Russians are basically the invaders, it is my opinion they had every right to try and run them out. As inherently futile and possibly stupid as that was, who else was going to do it.

The Russian apologists here and the cowards of the "Peace at Any Price" in Europe certainly weren't going to help.

The best article I read today was an op-ed piece in the WSJ by Gary Kasprov, "How the West Fueled Putin's Sense of Impunity". If it wasn’t for his notoriety, Gary would probably be dead by now.

Be a skeptic, a cynic, and a constant searcher of the truth, as it is usually very difficult to find.

Vladimir Putin: Hero or Heel

I just don't get it. Maybe I'm getting too old and was born too long ago (1946). How can so many Americans, believe anything Putin or any other Russian leader from the old school says? You can take the boy out of the KGB, but you can't take the KGB out of the boy.

I have to admit that I was taken in by his charm also. For the first two years of his presidency, I thought the Russian people finally had a chance at a future. Sure, the men were basically lazy alcoholics (thanks to the Soviets), but the women were in a significant part highly educated. They went to college because they were not allowed decent jobs. My wife has two degrees. A lot of these women have since fled Russia for elsewhere, especially the U.S. If Russia is so great, why have the people (men and women both) left in such droves (there are over 21,000 in Baltimore); freedom of course!

That brings up another point. How many women do you ever see in leadership roles under Putin's reign? Answer that, please.

One of the criticisms you can have for Bush is that (at least for appearances' sake), he still believed Putin until recently.

In the beginning, there were business and agriculture reforms, private ownership was extolled, etc. That didn't last long; just long enough for Putin and his thugs to position themselves.

Back in 2000-2001, we watched TV6 on Russian TV until they made one too many criticisms of the regime and it was put out of business, its people scattered or scared, or both. There is no freedom of the press there anymore, not even the modicum of the first few years. The deaths of so many reporters insured that.

What disturbs me the most is the ease at which so many of our people disrespect the United States. Even if I understood the hatred for President Bush, how does that translate do the hatred of our country? Of course this didn't start with Bush; it began with the Vietnam War, and quite frankly is down-right discouraging.

This current election should load up all levels of government with Neo-Libs as a backlash to the Republican failures to be true to their beliefs, and reach across the aisle too often. Loading the congress with more of these people should plummet its rating to even lower depths, already far below Bush's. Like it or not most Americans are conservative by nature and simply want to be left alone to work, keep their pay, raise their families, and admire and defend their country. That is a hard pill for a lot of you to swallow.

Tzar Putin is well aware of the mental state of the American public and I guarantee you, he will play it for what it's worth.

He is no hero to most Russians, especially the hungry multitudes. He is only a hero to the socialists and Neo-Libs of this country. This is quite interesting when you consider he isn’t even a socialist or a communist. There is no talk of wealth redistribution, or equalities of the peoples over there. It is the Russian people “be damned” (and the rest of the world too).

He is simply a power-hungry narcissistic megalomaniac, whose drive has no bounds. His supporters are toadies wanting the table scraps, and those too fearful to resist.

Don’t buy into this crap,

The Russian Empire Strikes Back!!

On May 9th 2008 I wrote an article "Mother Russia, Why Do you Cry?", you might want to read it again.

Consider these points:

1. Vladimir Putin wants to be the next Tsar. He is not interested in bringing back the Soviet Union. When they nationalized (stole) the main oil companies such as Yukos, and placed them under the government ran Gazpron (through several paper company deals), you should know that Tsar Putin owned a considerable share of Gazpron and became an immediate multi-billionaire. Recently, they threw out British Petroleum’s head and for all intents have nationalized BP.

2. Through his former KBG training he is prepared to do whatever necessary in the old ways (bluster, lie, and murder) to get his way. He is indeed in charge. The current president isn't even a figure-head, but truly a puppet.

3. The Soviet Union collapsed because we outspent them and they basically went bankrupt. Oil has changed that. They are again a major power, simply because they are rich, because Putin is rich.

4. Russian tyrants, as with all such ilk, lie consistently.

5. Europe gets 25% of their oil from Russia, so don't count on them for anything.

6. Russia wants to annex (takeover) Belarus, the Ukraine, Georgia, the Stans (Turkistan, etc.), and the Baltics (Lithuania, Latvia, & Estonia, all seaports). They believe it is their divine right.

7. There are 2 classes of people in Russia: those who can spend $500 on a meal and those who can’t afford 1 Kilo (2.2 pounds) of cheese a week.

8. You can not compare Putin to Adolph Hitler, because Hitler actually did seem to care for the German people; however, you can compare him to Robert Mugambe of Zimbabwe, who took everything his people made and put it in a Swiss bank account, and left them to starve. Putin wants one thing Mugambe could never really have, power, international power!

9. Besides physically attacking Georgia, Russia has shut off gas supplies to the Ukraine, and waged a cyber attack on Lithuania, which is already a part of the European Union.

10. The Ukraine and Georgia are fledging democracies that need help and nurturing.

What should we do? Here are a few ideas:

1. First, we help get the Ukraine and Georgia get under the NATO umbrella. They have already applied. I don’t know if it is possible for Belarus, or if they have even applied yet, because of their present government (rather tyrannical itself). This may be difficult because of Europe’s fear of Russia, which is counting on this.

2. Dump Russia from the G-8. They never had any business being there in the first place.

3. Try to get our allies in Europe to stand tall against what is coming. It is a long shot, but we must attempt to get them to see this for what it is, the possible end of their future. It is their ass after all more than ours. Thank God, Sarkozy is President of France.

4. Threaten to take-over Russian government interests in this country; however, this is tough since most of their interests here are private citizens; such as the company that recently bought Bethlehem Steel. They might put pressure on Putin, or he might just nationalize them.

5. Don’t believe anything Putin says. There is no cease-fire.

6. We must be prepared for all hell could break loose.

7. We must do everything we can, short of war (at least for now) to help all countries concerned. Be aware they have 14,000 nukes to our 5,600, and they will sell them to some idiot who might shoot them at us, or an ally. There are many more in The Ukraine.

Please understand:

Even if you are not politically inclined, you should start paying attention to this. The lives of millions of our people could be at stake.

My wife is from Russia (Kaliningrad) and she and her friends have only recently discovered the extent the Russian government will go to enslave, torture, and kill their own people. Example: the returning soldiers from World War II could not be cared for, so they simply drowned thousands of them in lakes at country “resorts”.

If they will do that to their own people, what would they be prepared to do to other countries? Look at what is happening in Georgia as we watch. I have a friend in Tbilisi whom I can not contact over the internet; hopefully it is just an internet problem. Thank God for satellite TV and the internet.

Some talking heads are already making rumblings of World War III, and they might be spot on for a change. At the very least, we have another group of terrorists to worry about!

Take heed,

Insanity 1 - Freedom & Liberty 0

The Los Angeles city council passed a ban on any new fast food restaurant construction! Since when did making the choice where we eat become the governments business? This is another chip at the foundation of our God-given rights and freedoms.

If they want to do something useful, ban high fructose corn syrup as a drug which is probably worse health-wise than cocaine, and we have no choice in the matter, since it is in everything prepared we buy to eat. (I'm only half-serious on this one, since I really question prohibition of most anything and really don't want any more laws.)

Home Grown Terrorists, Bad Cops!

I wrote two days ago about the incident in Berwyn Heights, MD where the Prince George's county Police SWAT team burst into the house of the Mayor, terrorized his family and shot their 2 Black Lab dogs: "When the Authorities are the Problem, It's Hell"

I have been so outraged by this that I have not been able to sleep. My wife has been so affected she is having problems getting ready for a much anticipated trip. We are both pet owners and lovers, and know the loveable, kind and thoroughly wonderful nature of the Black Lab.

Even if the family had been guilty of a crime (They WERE NOT, they were both victims of a smuggling gang and the police), what would give the police the legal authority, let alone the moral authority, to kill the dogs and track their blood and body matter all over the house. How could any rational or moral human being do this? Thank God, this didn't happen to me, for I would be dead or in jail.

At the very least these officers should lose their jobs and be placed in psychiatric facilities for their sub-human behavior. More appropriately they should be tried as the criminals they are.

This is not an isolated occurrence. Here in Maryland, on February 20, 2002, Joseph Schultz was shot and permanently disfigured and had his life ruined by FBI Special Agent Christopher Braga for nothing more than being in the wrong place and the wrong time, being misidentified and following the orders of the agents to open his car door. You can read the Court Documents. Schultz later was awarded $1.3 Million in a civil suit, but Agent Braga was not prosecuted even though his version of the story contradicted everyone else’s version.

Don't forget the Massacre at Ruby Ridge, when not only was the family dog shot for sport or just to aggravate the situation, but the Weaver family mother was shot and killed while holding her child.

We should never forget Janet Reno and her thugs that burned the men, women and children of the Branch Dividians in Waco, TX.

These last two examples are the worst and most well know, but this is happening every day. I blame a lot of it on over-zealous enforcement, lack of psychological exams of the people working in law enforcement, the lowered standards of recruitment, and the awful failed policy of the "War on Drugs" (obviously not a factor in Ruby Ridge and Waco).

There are over 1 billion Moslems alive at this time. I have read accounts that up to 10% of them are Radical Jihadists. If there are only 1% of them are, that is 10 million potential terrorists out there. So the range is 10 to 100 million of them. The worst part of this is that the other 90 to 99% are for the most part complacent about it or silently in agreement.

According to the FBI Crime in the United States Report of 2004 there are over 675,000 sworn law enforcement officers in the country. Using the same range of 1% to 10%, there are between 6,750 and 67,500 potential cop terrorists out there.

Now before you scream that I can not extrapolate those figures, consider this. A study was done in the 1970’s that indicated that only 30% of any employees were psychologically suited for their jobs, and one of those studied was police officers.

And, don’t forget the “Thin Blue Line” that protects police thugs, where the rest of the cops protect their own, and it is only the occasional cop that will “betray” a fellow officer.

I personally knew in the 70’s a Baltimore County cop that told me the reason he joined was he liked to beat up people. He only lasted a few years and then ended up building cabinets. That was then, this is now. Back then requirements for police employment were a lot more stringent than now. Today, Washington, DC police can even have a criminal background.

The soul of our society is dying a belabored and slow death. Many are ready to condemn the actions of individuals and companies for their actions, but are silent on the continuing destruction of our civil rights and liberties.

More importantly we as citizens have to awaken to what is happening and demand responsibility from our governments. This is supposed to be a free society, but the tyrannical nature of some aspects of government at all levels is becoming unbearable.

This is just a warning. Get involved. I don’t know how, but I am open to any suggestions on what to do. Forget global warning, there might not be much of a society left to worry about when and if it occurs.

When the Authorities are the Problem, It's Hell

I have always felt that the Military and the Police are our main defense against the bad guys, and they have always had my respect, appreciation, and support.

But, what do you do; what do you think, when they go bad, get it wrong, or just screw up, and you have no recourse.

For the past several years, especially since the "Drug Asset Confiscation Laws" were passed the temptation to go a little too far has been there, and too often pressed into service for the wrong reasons, or act out of down-right creed.

Because of the "War on Drugs" has been fought (and will never be won), corners have been cut and mistakes have been made, some accidents (such as getting the address wrong on a search), misleads (such as informants giving out bad intel and having it believed as wish-fulfillment), and much overzealous enforcement. All have some unfortunate, if not devastating result.

One such incident occurred this past week in Berwyn Heights, Maryland, to none other than the Mayor of the town. County police raided the home of the mayor and his family to retrieve a package of marijuana that had just been delivered. They scared the hell out of his family, handcuffed him and his mother-in-law, and shot both of their dogs, Black Labs whose only aggression was too maybe lick the officers to death, if allowed. As reported in the Baltimore Sun article of 8/8/08, Neither dog had made any moves toward the men and one ran away and was shot in the back.

Here are the real killing points:

1. Town police were supposed to have been informed, but were not; and since the invading County SWAT team was in street clothes, if town officers had noticed the raid, there most likely would have been a shoot-out between the forces.

2. The SWAT team stated they had a no-knock warrant, but that appears to not be the case, and they didn't knock, they just burst in.

3. Two men were arrested in Prince George's County for importing "weed" and having it sent to unknowing people, in this case the mayor's wife, Trinity Tomsic. This is a new version of identity theft. They were the culprits in this story.

4. Here's the winning point, the County Police absolutely refuse to even apologize.

If this were an isolated incident, it would be a curiosity, but IT ISN'T! This is happening regularly, daily. What can we do? I was always taught to respect authority, that respect is ebbing quite quickly for this and many other reasons.

Why do so many innocent people (and dogs) have to be injured, terrified, and even die by the hands of those who supposed to protect us?

I just don't get it.

Here are some follow-up articles: 7:00 PM 8/8/08 Mayor & Wife Cleared and later this evening FBI Opens Probe into Raid .

Maybe this time they won't let them get away as they did at Ruby Ridge.

Stay Alert,

The Hammer

I Don't Mean to Say I told You So, But I Did!

On May 11th, I wrote "Now is the Time to Buy an SUV!! " I received a lot of notes and emails (especially on Gather.com) telling me I was crazy and the numbers just didn't add up. Well, they did, still do, and probably will for a while yet since the general public is so gullible for fear tactics.

I said in another article: "Three Big Bubbles Will Burst: Part II" that the price of oil would probably hit between $140 and $160" then back off or drop to the $80 to $90 range. It topped around $147 and yesterday was $118.

Since to did not collapse all at once, it will likely go back to the $130 to $140 range again before continuing down. That it my prediction. If it is a steady drop, it most likely will not go much below $100. A collapse at any point could cause an overshoot to $60 to $70.

Regardless, if you like SUV's FGS buy one. It will take you years, maybe decades, to recover the difference in cost of buying an expensive and over-priced Hybrid or small car.

Just thought I would point a few things out,

The Hammer
