A Word About Education

The news now is that schools all across our great nation are teaching to the test. Big Deal! They have always done it. Here in Maryland where the state has had tests in place for years, teaching to the test is a norm.

The problem is that other areas such as Music, Art, & History are lessen or obliterated. It’s been bad enough that history & geography have been relegated to the euphemism of Social Studies since the 1960’s and no one knows where anything is or what happened yesterday. Look how we dropped in science in comparison to the rest of the world.

The fault lies in many places, but mostly in the federal government. That body exists for only a couple reasons: defending the country from outside aggression and the promotion and continuance of free trade between the states. Even though the Interstate commerce Acts are used to get into other areas, the Feds have no business in Education, Housing, Medicine, or anything else.

Other places to place blame are the trial lawyers, the teachers unions, & the public school system. Anytime you give a business (the public schools) a virtual monopoly through taxing and related laws and allow the workers (the teachers unions) to run said business, crap is going to happen. Add to that the lawyers who have mucked up everything associated with schooling so that the students are the ones truly in charge, what do you expect?

I’ll go into more detail in the future. Right now this is enough to make my blood boil for the rest of the day.

POV: Idiots in Iraq

Those three peace-niks that were rescued yesterday in Iraq really piss me off. Not only didn’t they thank us or the Brits for saving their asses; they blamed us for their problems.

Don’t get me wrong, if a conscientious objector is truly a believer and does not want to kill people fine, I have no problem. Just stay the hell away from a situation like that. If you want to get involved that is fine too, but don’t expect us to save your butt if you are going to go into harm’s way.

These idiots are James Loney, Harmeet Singh Sooden & Norman Kember. They are probably pretty nice people, but they have no brains. A peace achievement is made by leveling the opponent’s resistance and offer a better procedure for living and governing. Talk only gets you killed when power struggles are in the forefront.

In this case, the struggle is between an old and new way of life. The Iraqi people and we Americans are in the middle.

Hang His Ass!

Kenneth Glenn Hinson

This is the SOB that is charged with abducting and assaulting two teenage girls in Darlington, NC.

If you have ever seen his picture, you know this bastard is no good, just by looking at him. We generously call his type, genetic garbage.

The unanswered questions are:

Why wasn't he disposed of the first time?
Who the hell let him go?

This generates another question, of why aren’t the parole boards held to some kind of responsibility and accountability? I know the argument that no one would serve on them if their actions were held up to the fire. So what, maybe those who did serve might not be so generous with this kind of a-hole.

My grand-daddy once said about politicians, that if you hanged a few of them once in awhile, the rest would do a hell of a lot better job. He was right as rain.

This goes to these damn child predators. Who needs them? Take them out behind the courthouse and hang them in the public square. Maybe somebody would get the idea that we are pissed and won't take it any more.

Just my humble opinion,

Iraq

I have not said much about Iraq, but I will now. I'm sure it was a good idea to go there, but I think a lot of serious mistakes were made.

One was having Don Rumsfeld in charge. What a doofus! Enough said. Well maybe not enough. He is as bad in that job as Ashcroft was as Attorney General. Both are megalomaniacs who have no business in positions of authority.

The other was not attacking Syria first. Where do you think all of the insurgents are coming from? Where do you think all of the WMD's went?

The third mistake was using the WMD's as an excuse. Who needs an excuse when you are right?

More later,

POV: Bill O'Reilly

The reason I have O'Reilly's POV side by side with Bill Maher's is that they seem to disagree (an obvious understatement). I don't know how real or serious Maher's dislike for him is, but it appears to be genuine. It is difficult to assess these things as both men are entertainers first and pundits second.

I believe they honestly think most of what they say is their feelings, but you always have to listen with a jaded ear. Remember money talks.

O'Reilly's major plus is that unlike Maher he doesn't bad-mouth or attack people personally. His major minus is he does shout them down, whereas Maher is a little more respectful.

As I have said many times, there is no one I agree with all of the time, but I do enjoy listening to these two. Once a week or so is enough though.

I'm sure most of you can only handle a little of me, but who gives a crap, right?

POV: Bill Maher

I attended the taping of “Real Time with Bill Maher”. I really enjoy his show. Last night’s was a bit off the usual pace, but interesting none the less.

I must say that though I like his humor, he occasionally pisses me off. He seems to be a fiscal conservative and a social liberal such as myself, but I certainly can’t understand the obsession with hating President Bush and loving PETA.

Don’t get me wrong, I am very disappointed and disgusted with the President, probably because he seems to me to be a social conservative and a fiscal liberal. That is exactly opposite to me. I voted for him because I had no choice. President Kerry or President Gore… I don’t think so.

As far as PETA is concerned, they’re crazy, enough said. I like animals too, mostly medium rare. That does not mean, I don’t have pets, because I do, and I would defend them as I would my human children.

Back to Maher, love him or hate, he is good at what he does, and that is entertaining with satire and humor. “New Rule”, Bert says watch Real Time with Bill Maher.

Trading Parking Spaces

It seems to me that if stupidity was against the law, half of the country would be in jail. This is especially true when it comes to parking a car.

I was at the bank the other day, politely waiting for another driver to back his car out and leave. This was an extremely excruciating experience (a great alliteration) since the old fart that was trying to get out took at least sixteen maneuvers to do it. Compounding the situation was this young lady (an obvious sarcasm), who decided to quickly move by me, crowd him and take the parking space I was waiting for. I wanted to get out of the truck and pummel her and kick him in his ass, but I didn’t, I calmly (seething) moved to another area, parked, and got out. She walked passed me into the bank as if nothing had happened. I wondered if she were so dense she didn’t even know what she had done.

A few years ago, I was waiting at the downtown Baltimore post office for a space for over 5 minutes. If anyone has ever tried to get parking there on a busy day, they know it is difficult. Just as a driver was slowly pulling out, a black Mercedes sped passed me and moved quickly into the space.

I pulled up, got out of the truck, approached the guy, and called him everything but a child of god. One of the postal police force saw what was happening and came quickly over. I thought, “Oh shit! Now I’m going to have more problems!”

He asked what was going on and I told him as the other SOB stood there smugly. To my surprise, the officer tore into the other guy and ripped him a new a-hole. You see I’m this big white guy and they were both black. Goes to show you, good sense and parking problems knows no color.

The very next week, I was at another local post office trying to park on the street. I pulled up and was about to parallel park when a driver in a smaller vehicle pulled into the space behind me, got out and moved quickly to the building. I got out and yelled at him and asked what the hell he was doing. He smiled and just kept going. I was thoroughly pissed.

I got back in, went down about a block, turned around and began to back into another space on the other side of the street. The same damn thing happened again. This time it was a father and his kids. I got out again and lit into him. He came over and back talked to me about how I was using foul language in front of his daughters. I told him it wouldn’t be necessary if he wasn’t such an inconsiderate ass-hole. He should be ashamed of himself for being such a bad example to them. It was like bouncing wet shit off a Teflon wall; I knew nothing was sticking.

At that point, I got back into my truck and headed back to the office, wondering out loud (talking to myself), if there shouldn’t be a law allowing us to beat the crap out of people like that without going to jail. It would be a public service.

Obviously I have mellowed somewhat since then, at lest a little. Now I just rant, but it would be nice to knock them around a little.
